7.Flavia Pennetta:Nickname:The unexpected NY queen

Flavia reached the QFs in Indian Wells
to secure 215 points
Flavia after the NY fairytale,securing
2000 points.

Profile:The competitive Italian made it to Singapore, too. Many people got to know her when she conquered 2015 US Open but Flavia's triumph in the US was just the most spectacular highlight of a long and remarkable career. In her interview just after her victory against Vinci in the US Open Final, she said that by the end of the season she will retire, reminding us of Bartoli's similar decision after she won Wimbledon. However, the difference is that Marion didn't play at all at a professional level after that title, while Pennetta will end her career playing in Singapore. According to Mats Wilander, Flavia has always been a nice tennis player but success came only after she took the decision to give up crazy tennis and start acting more logically in the court. Regarding the other Majors, she was defeated in the 1st round of the Australian Open and Wimbledon and in RG she made the 4th round. If she desires to combine her last tournament before retirement with one more triumph she will have to replicate the form she had in September.

8.Lucie Safarova:Nickname:The warrior

Lucie after winning Doha securing
470 points
Lucie after reaching her maiden GS final
in the FO,securing 1300 points.

Profile:One more Czech. One more talented player. That's all. If you wanna search for some extra similarities between her and her compatriot,Petra, you must rack your brains for quite a lot of time. By this I mean, that Lucie's temperament has nothing to do with Petra's. The one is probably one of the most passionate players I have ever seen and the other one of the coolest. Apparently, brain games are not Lucie's cup of tea, but her dynamic style has led her to Singapore. This year was admittedly the best of her career. She may have dropped openers in the Australian Open and the US Open, but reaching the Finals in Roland Garros should have been the best moment of her career. Also, she reached the round of 16 in Wimbledon. Since the US Open she is struggling with a bacteria infection and an abdominal injury,so being healthy will be the most important thing for her in Singapore.

Guest Blogging:The Fantastic Eight:Part C

Hey guys!!Nora will be hosted again today so that she continues her article series about the WTA Finals. Today,in the part C,Nora analyses the 5th and the 6th seed,Aga Radwanska and Angie Kerber. Please read and comment your opinion!!!

5.Agnieszka Radwanska: Nickname: The best of the rest

Aga after her run in the Wimbledon SF.
She secured 780 points

Aga after winning her 1st title this season
in Tokyo,securing 470 points

Profile: Aga was also through this year's world championship. The player who admittedly deserves a Grand Slam but she hasn't been really lucky so far hopes to take advantage of Williams' withdrawal and Sharapova's seeming inability to win two quality athletes in a row. She has always been a true fighter in court but she never seemed capable of maintaining herself in the first three of the WTA World Ranking . Lastly, she had problems with her play identity, as her co-operation with the timeless legend, Martina Navratilova, didn't prove effective. Her best result regarding the Majors was the Wimbledon SF in which she lost to Spain's Muguruza, while the worst one was in RG where she was defeated by Annika Beck in the 1st round. In the Australian Open she reached the 4th round and in the US Open she lost in the 3rd round. In case she wanna do well on Asian ground, she will need to find the balance between defence and offence for sure.

6.Angelique Kerber:Nickname:The killer with the angelic face

Angie after winning Birmingham, one of her 4 titles this year.
She secured 470 points

Angie after winning Stuttgart, the most important moment
of her season, securing 470 points

Profile:The talented German has fulfilled her ambition to be one of the Fantastic Eight. When it comes to her case, I'd advise you to bear in mind the following clues. Firstly, Angie has a particularly positive Head-to-Head with Maria Sharapova(especially if we take their latest matches into account). Secondly, she is a player of big matches, which means that provided she feels well in court she can literally win anybody. If Serena hadn't withdrawn, I'd have probably said that Kerber could potentially challenge her. Of course that's the same with Masha and Simona(who will thankfully play in Singapore). This year she was knocked out in the 1st round of the Australian Open and made it to the 3rd round in the rest Grand Slams. Although that doesn't sound extremely impressive from a statistic view, I support that if Angelique is in good shape she can certainly go far in the WTA Finals.

2016 Outlook:Carla Suarez Navarro

As the tennis season is coming to an ending,I decided to publish a series of articles with a review of the 2015 season of some players and a preview of the 2016 one. Today,Im writing about Carla Suarez Navarro.

2015: From the peaks of the mountains to the deeps of the ocean.
Carla in Beijing this year.
The Spaniard had probably the best season of her career-or should I say the best half season. Carla found her self with an inspired form during the first half of the season,as she made the QFs or better in 12 of her 14 1st tournaments of the season, all Premiers. Also, she made her 1st Premier Mandatory Final in Miami losing to Serena Williams and her first Premier level 5 one losing to Maria Sharapova in Rome. Her game was in full sync during the first half allowing her to win many big opponents(10 top 10 wins). Her win over Simona Halep in the Semi-Finals of Rome was the tip of the iceberg for the 27 year-old.However, as every good has an end,the downfall started after the grass court season. We all know that grass isn't Carla's cp of tea and this was proved on court especially after getting bageled and breadsticked by 18 year-old Jelena Ostapenko in the 1st round of the All-England Club. I think that the grass court season and the summer break played an important role to her downfall. CSN seemed to have lost her inspiration in the second half. She lost in the opening round of 7 consecutive tournaments including the Japan Women's Open in Osaka where she had more than 20 ranking places difference with the 2nd seed. The problem with Carla was that the quick courts of the US didn't suit her game that much so that she could get her early year inspiration back. Also, something I have to admit about Suarez is that she hasn't a fan club,or a fan base. I have never seen someone who is a big fan of Carla neither on twitter, nor on insta,so she lacks the fan support. In the Asian Swing, Carla wasn't as disappointing as in the summer, but nowhere near to the start of the season. She played well enough to beat the easy opponents but failed to challenge the better ones.In Moscow she had the Singapore ticket in her hands but she lost in a really rough way to Daria Kasatkina. She has qualified to the WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai where she will probably be the 1st seed, hoping for a strong ending in the season.

Eyes on 2016
Carla in Miami where she made the final this year.
As the 2015 tennis season is coming to an end, Carla will have to thing through many things during the off season. She must take the goods from the start, but to see what went wrong after Birmingham. I think that the first weeks of the 2016 will be crucial for her,as she needs some confidence so that she can defend all these points which are coming off. Also,I believe that she should keep playing doubles even without Garbine because they have helped her game the past 2 years, especially in the net. I believe that net play is important for Carla as she can help her in the quicker surfaces, but also it is needed so that she can win easy points. Moreover,in my opinion, her game needs some acceleration and speed. Her angles are beautiful but with some work I think we can see fireworks from her! About her ranking,I suppose that she can stay in the top 30 of course, but I doubt if she will maintain herself in the top 15 like now. With the points coming off and the competition brewing I think that it will be tough for her. Closing, I want to say that I like Carla's game and when she is on, she is a breath of fresh air in the top 20. I hope she can be in top 20 in 2016 as well and that she can have a sort of #TeamCarlita by her side next year, because she deserves it.

Guest Blogging:The fantastic Eight:Part B

Nora will be hosted once again in my blog today, continuing her article series. Today, the fantastic 8 will feature Garbine Muguruza who qualified today after winning her R16 match in Beijing against Mirjana Lucic -Baroni and Petra Kvitova who has qualified already according to the Live Ranking but nothing is official so lets say it is 99%. Hope you enjoy it! Please leave your opinion in comment!!!

3.Garbine Muguruza:Nickname:The young gun
Garbi after her final showing in Wuhan.
She secured 585 points.

Garbi with her Wimbledon R-Up trophy and S.Williams.
She secured 1300 points after this triumph.

Profile:As of today, Garbi has qualified for the WTA Finals in Singapore after beating Mirjana Lucic Baroni to reach the QF in the China Open, becoming the 4th qualifier (3rd if we consider Serena's withdrawal). It was probably the best birthday present she has ever took,as she will be one of the fantastic eight for first time in her career in singles(she did qualify last year in doubles). This year she literally forced us to see how talented and hard-working she is. Reaching the Quarterfinals in the French Open as well as the Wimbledon Final is just the tip of the iceberg for the Spanish youngster, who has been working extremely hard for the last 2 or 3 years. The truth is that she is not unbeatable in any aspect of the game. For instance, she doesn't have neither Pliskova's impressive serve nor Sharapova's quality returns. However, she is stable and at the same time pretty mature, if we consider her young age. In case she is able to use these weapons efficiently and play smart tennis, Garbine will manage not not just to live up to the expectations but also to surpass them.

4.Petra Kvitova:Nickname:The ice woman
Petra after winning the title in New Heaven.
She secured 470 points after this triumph.

Petra in Madrid, where she secured 1000 points.

Profile:The talented Czech is with the one foot in the WTA Finals. She has in fact qualified according to the Live Ranking, but nothing is official yet. Having won 2 Wimbledon titles, all Petra lacks is stability throughout the year. This season, her best result regarding Grand Slams was in the US Open, where she lost to Pennetta in the Quarter-Finals. She also beat Serena in Madrid semis. Most of the times, her basic characteristic is the so-called <<poker face>>, an extremely useful tool for brain games. In case she can use this weapon efficiently, she will definitely achieve big things in Asia.

The Battle for Zhuhai!:Part 2

While everyone's eyes are in the battle for qualification to the WTA Finals,I decided to shed light on the competition that is going on for the qualification to the newest tournament of the WTA,the Elite Trophy in Zhuhai, which will host the world's 9-19 best players(except for Serena Williams) and one WC in November.Thirteen players have already secured a place in the tournament, however 6 of them will probably get to the WTA finals. So with 7 spots secured, there are only 4 spots remaining to send the WTA players into the elite top 20 of the world. Those 4 spots are currently occupied by Madison keys,Sara Errani,Elina Svitolina and Victoria Azarenka. However, there are many players near them, battling for the precious qualifying spot. Ana Ivanovic,Ekaterina Makarova, Jelena Jankovic, Andrea Petkovic and Ana-Karolina Schmiedlova are among the players who will give their best to overcome the 4 standing players and be in Zhuhai next month. In this article, I will tell my opinion about them, their season, their current status and whether I believe they will make it or not. In this part I will speak for the competition behind the 4 standing players. The competition isn't that rough but it consists of players that you should wait the worst but the best from them the same time.

5.Ana Ivanovic
Ana Ivanovic on the French Open where
she had her best 2015 run.
The former world no1s season isn't as expected. Hr fans woke up after her fantastic 2014 but she has surely let them down this year. She started the year really well reaching the finals in Brisbane and leading Maria Sharapova with a set before losing to her. She was victim of a surprise in the first round of the Australian Open, where she lost to Lucie Hradecka. After the match, she claimed she had a toe injury. The only final round she reached till the next slam was in Monterrey where she lost in the Semi-finals to Caroline Garcia. Garcia was her nightmare for the first part of the season as she beat her 3 times(:O) in Monterrey,Stuttgart and Indian Wells. While everything seemed lost and she had 2 bad matches in her first 2 rounds in the French Slam, she made her 3rd round match with Donna Vekic a turning point as she won that easily and after beating Ekaterina Makarova in a tough 4th round match she made her 1st Grand Slam final phase since AO 2014. She then rallied through Elina Svitolina to make the semis. It was a really important result for her and her numerous fans as it was her first Grand Slam SF in 7 years(!!!) when she won in Paris! However, she wasn't able to repeat the 2008 triumph as she lost in the Semis to Lucie Safarova. Many believed that Ana would have a lot of confidence after the French Open, but she couldn't find the French Open form in the English grass courts scoring one win in 3 matches against out of top 100 players. However, she was there in the USA hard courts making back-to-back QF in Toronto and Cincinnati. In the US Open was a victim of her hard draw(in the 1st round only),losing to Dominika Cibulkova. The same player beat her in the QF of Tokyo, being her nightmare for the second half of the season. She also lost in the R16 in Wuhan to Garbine Muguruza. In Beijing, she has currently an easy draw. If we except her next opponent,Wuhan champion, Venus Williams who should be tired and she is also suffering from leg injury she has perfect H2H with every other player till the semis!
My opinion:I think Ana will get to Zhuhai anyway, as she plays Luxembourg as a top seed and Linz as well . If she wins against Venus, considering her easy draw I thing that she can get in the battle for Singapore too.

6.Ekaterina Makarova
Kate in her semi-fnal run in the Aus Open
The Russian is having an injured-marred season in general but her strong start that put her in the WTA top 10 for the first time in her career was able to bring her high in the Road to Singapore rankings. Kate had a really strong start making her 3rd consecutive Grand Slam final round in the semi-finals of the Australian Open. She continued her good form in the first Premier Tier I tournament in Dubai, where she reached the QF and lost in a rematch of the Australian Open QF with Simona Halep. She had made signs of her injury in the Us hard courts and it was evident as soon as the clay court season kicked off.She anyway made the 4th round of the French for her 4th consecutive Slam 2nd week before she lost to Ana Ivanovic. She didn't do literally anything for the rest of the season with only a SF appearance in Washington DC and a 4th round in the US Open. She hasn't played since the US Open and she is withdrawing from everything. Her only hope is her home tournament in Moscow, where she is next projected to play.
My opinion:Kate's injury seems serious and she has been hampered by it throughout almost the whole season. So, even if she plays Moscow her last tournament, not only the competition would have gotten far, but also her injury will probably not let her show her best face. It is a pity that Kate had to suffer from an injury after her fairytale start which surely looked promising.

7.Jelena Jankovic
Jelena after winning the title in Guangzhou
The former World no1 is not having a really good year but with some sudden peaks she has managed to be in the competition for Zhuhai. She didn't start the season well dropping openers both in Brisbane and Australian Open. As a consequence of this she saw her ranking fall more resulting in more difficult first and second rounds. However, in Indian Wells she had a huge breakthrough run in the final of the Premier Mandatory event where she lost the match out of her hands to Simona Halep. Her clay court season wasn't that good especially after she got injured in the Strasbourg QF,with this resulting to her R1 loss in the French Open. She then went on to reach the SF in Hertogenbosch and the round of 16 in both Birmingham and Wimbledon marking it as a really successful grass court season according to her grass court standards. She even took out of competition the 2 time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova in the 3rd round of the England slam. She then won the Nanchang 125k title, however without facing a single top 100 player. She made the SF in her favouite tournament Cincinnati, for her best result in the US Open hard courts.Despite her Cincinnati success she was a victim of a 1st round US Open loss to Oceane Dodin. In Asia, she started off well winning the title in Guangzhou after saving match points in her semi-final match agains Yanina Wickmayer. She didn't keep this form up as she lost in the 2nd round of Wuhan and the 1st round of Beijing minimising her Zhuhai hopes. H er next tournament is Luxembourg.
My opinion: JJ's early loses in Wuhan and Beijing marked the end of her Zhuhai hopes as I stated before too. I don't think she can do something really good in Luxembourg and even if she does I don't thing she will catch up to the others.

8.Andrea Petkovic
Andrea after winning in Antwerp and
returning back in the top 10
The German returned in top 10 for first time since 2011 this year but she wasn't able to keep up this success for the whole year, which had many up and downs like her game and her character. She started te year reall bad with many tough loses and some really tough wins especially in her Fed-up ties. However, after beating Alison Van Uytvanck saving 7(!!)match points in her Antwerp opener the turning point came in her season. She ended up winning the whole thing and being back in the worlds top 10. She Doha QFs and Charleston and Miami SFs. Even, in this period of her season was inconsistent week in-week out but she was still able to make results. However, she has made only one QF in Eastbourne since then and she hasn't been in that good  a form. In Asia she has dropped opener in her first 2 tournaments and she starts her Beijing campaign against Eugenie Bouchard tomorrow.
My opinion:Andrea is not in form lately and her draw in Beijing even if it has opened it looms some dangers for her so I believe she won't make it..

9.Ana-Karolina Schmiedlova
The young Rising Star is having an amazing year, being probably the best International-level player of 2015.
Ana-Karolina after winning her first
WTA Title in Katowice
She didn't start the season well with many first round loses. She made her first WTA Final in Rio,where she lost to Sara Errani. Surprisingly, even this result wasn't enough to boost her confidence. She continued dropping first rounds and the one disappointment was coming after another. She played a top 15 player for first time against Aga Radwanska in Miami and lost. However, she probably learned many things by playing with the Pole as she conquered the next tournament she entered in Katowice for her 1st WTA Singles title. She also made the semis in Marrakech but in general her clay and grass court swing wasn't ideal without any big run. She turn the tides in her next tournament in Bucharest where after reaching her 3rd final of 2015 she avenged her Rio loss to Errani to win her 2nd career title. She followed up this showing with a SF appearance in Bad Gastein. Her summer was ideal as she reached her first premier QF in Cincinnati after winning Aga Radwanska in her first round match. She started the Asian swing really well making the SF in Seoul and her 2nd premier QF in Wuhan, where she beat Caroline Wozniacki. If she continued her form in Beijing she would be a big contender for qualifying in Zhuhai but she lost to Alison Van Uytvanck. She will battle for the qualification in Linz and Moscow.
My opinion:In the preview for this article I had her qualifying but after her 1st round loss today I was forced to change my mind. She was the only reliable out of the other competitors even if she was a couple of points back, but she wasn't able to exploit her favourable Beijing draw. I don't think that she can break the point difference in Linz and Moscow now.

The Battle for Zhuhai!:Part 1

In this article, I will tell my opinion about them, their season, their current status and whether I believe they will make it or not.In the first part I will analyse the standing players.

1.Madison Keys
Madison after winning Venus Williams in the QF
of the Australian Open
Madison has had a delightful year and she is deservedly ranked no16 in the Road to Singapore rankings. She kicked off the season with a great result in the hard courts of the Australian Open, where she made the semi-finals after beating Venus Williams and Petra Kvitova. It was a great run for the big-serving American who had quicker 2nd serve than Andy Murray(:O) which helped her earn more fans and gain confidence for the rest of the season. However,Madison didn't keep the level in the American masters where she had some rough luck in the draws facing Jankovic and Stephens and eventually losing. As the clay courts season kicked off she made the final in the Charleston green clay courts without however facing a top 60 player in her road to it(3/4 where out of the top 100). In the final she led 5-2 in the final set against Angelique Kerber but the always fighting German turned the match around to let Madison in the Runner-Up position. She didn't have a really good clay court season, without being expected for her anyway as her game isn't suitable for clay courts. In the grass courts of Wimbledon she had an open draw till the QF with lower ranked opponents and so she remained consistent to reach another Grand Slam final round. There she was stopped by the wall of Aga Radwanska after an intense batlle in the Wimbledon Court 1. She the avenged her defeat to the Pole in New York to reach the 4rth round where she got defeated by Serena Williams.Madison reached the second week of 3 out of the 4 Grand Slams in 2015,not to mention that her loses were to eventual Semi-finalist(in the Aus-Open to eventual champion). Her current status implies that an injury in her left wrist that forced her to pull out from Quebec is preventing her to find her best play.In Wuhan she got in trouble in her first round by Magdalena Rybarikova, before losing to Kiki Mladenovic in the second round. Today, she took revenge from Kiki after she won her in straight sets in Beijing. She will face either Barbora Strycova, either Kateryna Bondarenko for a place in the 3rd round, where seed wise she will meat with Aga Radwanska for 3rd time this season. Keys beat Aga in NY and she has the chance here too. I believe that she will have no trouble in her second match,so if she will be able to find out the US Open form and beat the 7th seed she will have secured a place in the QFs,which will give her a big boost.
My opinion:Madison has currently 2385 points and a chance in Beijing. Also, she is projected to play Linz and Luxembourg till the end of the year so I believe that she will manage to be in Zhuhai.

2.Sara Errani
Sara Errani after winning in Rio
her 1st title in 2 years
The former World no.5 and French Open 2012 R-Up is currently sitting in the 17th place of Road to Singapore ranks. Her year isn't living up to her name but with entering some little tournaments and having her annual French Open run, she is here. Sara didn't start her season that well losing matches whenever she found a dangerous player and not living up the crowds expectations. Even in Rio, where she won her 1st title in 2 years , she had to save match points in the QFs against Haddad-Maia who retired later on in the match. In the clay court season she wasn't that good reaching QF only in Stuutgart and in Roland Garros. Sara is having a love-affair with the French slam as she has to fail before the QF since 2011. The slow courts in Paris suit her great and she is always a dangerous player to come up against there. As expected, she didn't show up on the grass courts, but she took the points she lost with playing clay court events in July, reaching the Final in Bucharest and the semi-final in Bad Gastein. Sarita started her US hard court campaign really well making the SFs of the Premier level 5 event in Toronto losing to Simona Halep. She dropped openers in Cinci and New Heaven  to come in New York and lose in the 3rd round against Samantha Stosur. In her second round match she seemed to have a sort of problem, probably an illness. Last week she reached the semis in Guangzhou before losing to Denisa Allertova. This was her last chance! The tough draws in the Asian Premiers don't seem to let her have a big run. She lost to Caroline Garcia in the Wuhan 1st round in a 3 setter, while she has drawn Petra Kvitova in Beijing, who even though she has said that she is feeling ill again she leads Sara 6-0 in their H2H.
My opinion:I think Sara has lost the battle. She has a tough draw in Beijing and even if she plays Linz and Luxembourg she has a disadvantage in comparison to others on hard. However, she has 2360 points and the competition isn't that rough,so I believe she will hold her spot.

3.Elina Svitolina
Elina after winning in Marrakech
The young Ukrainian has had a really consistent season without many surprise loses and exits. She is currently in the 18th place of Road to Singapore and she has hopes to qualify for the WTA Elite Trophy. She started the season really well, making the SF in Brisbane before losing to eventual champion Maria Sharapova. Without surprises in any next tournament she finished the early hard court season well. She then decided to play the Copa Claro Open in Bogota, where she made the semis, losing to eventual champion Teliana Pereira. However, next week she won the title in Marrakech. Without being able to stop the seeds in the European clay court tournaments, she came in Paris in a part of the draw containing Aga Radwanska and Simona Halep. Exploiting the loses of the seeds, she was able even with difficulty to make her first Grand Slam final-round, as she advanced ith the QF where she lost to Ana Ivanovic. Her consistent baseline play was finally rewarded. With this showing she entered deeply in the worlds top 20 players. She didn't show up in grass, as it was expected, but her summer hard court season was really good. She made semis in Stanford and Cincinatti before losing to eventual champions in both times. She then went on to reach the 3rd round of the Us Open before losing to Ekaterina Makarova. Her Asian swing has started with two R16 finishes in Tokyo and Wuhan, while in Beijing she has a really good draw, with the only seed to face till the QF, being US Open champion Flavia Pennetta, who barely won Han in her opener. She has a chance here that will help her qualify as she is playing in Tianjin too.
My opinion;I think that Elina's consistency will help her win ground while others are losing. She can come through open draws without flopping so in my opinion she will make it.

4.Victoria Azarenka
The former World no-1 and 2 time Grand Slam champion is finding herself in a back to track season being ranked no19 in the Road to Singapore. She started the season by making the 4rth round of the Australian Open losing to former finalist Dominica Cibulkova although she was really close to earning a QF clash with Serena Williams. She then went on to play probably her favourite tournament in Doha where she made the final, showing the tennis world that she is back.  However, she lost to Maria Sharapova and Flavia Penneta in the US Masters showing that she has to work a lot in the European clay courts before she really comes back. She lost in the 3rd round of Madrid to Serena Williams in a match she had 3 MPs!!!(:o). However, she didn't let down and she made the QF in Rome before losing easily to Maria Sharapova again. In the french Open her draw was really tough as she had to face Serena Williams in the 3rd round. She led with a set and a break but again she didn't manage to complete the win. She faced another injury that made her withdraw from Birmingham. However, she was ready for Wimbledon where she made it to the QF once again losing to Serena Williams being a set up. She then went on to play Toronto where she had a huge chance in a tournament most of the seeds were out or without form, but she didn't manage to get pass Errani. In Cincinatti she found her self with another injury which had forced her to withdraw from Washington DC.In the US Open she didn't seem so well in health, but she was able to win an incredible match in the 3rd round against Angie Kerber and eventually make the QF where she lost to Simona Halep. Vika is absent since Us Open due to injury. She pulled out from Wuhan and Beijing, while her participation in Hong Kong is questionable. As she said she is looking to the next season, as her injuries won't probably let her finish this one.
My opinion:Not only she isn't physically ready, but mentally too in my opinion. Vika shows no care in qualifying for the WTA Elite trophy, while she has lost the two important Asian-Swing stops. Her participation is Hong Kong is questionable, but even f she makes it she wont be able to do the job with that rough competition. In my opinion she won't make it as her mind id already in 2016.

Profile:The young Romanian was the second tennis player who managed to be safely through Singapore(the first one was Serena Williams, who withdraw). This year she wasn't as astonishing as in 2014, but in the end she did the job and now all tennis fans are looking forward to seeing how she will do in the World Championships. When it comes to the Majors she lost to Makarova in the Australian Open quarter-final and to Lucic-Baroni in the 2nd round of Roland Garros. In Wimbledon she suffered a resounding defeat in the 1st round of the tournament, while in the US Open it was Pennetta that knocked her out in the semis. If she wants to be crowned world champion for the very first time in her career, she will have to make a performance equal to this of 2014 RG Final.

Profile:The legendary Russian is also already in Singapore, ranked as 3rd for the time being(2nd considering Serena's withdrawal). This season started ideally for her, as she managed to reach the Australian Open final(but not to conquer the trophy, too). In Paris, the illness from which she suffered back then kept her away from defending the title. When it comes to Wimbledon, <<Masha>> was defeated by S.Williams in the semi-finals. She didn't participate in the US Open due to leg injury . We can't be sure whether she will be doing well or not in this year's World Championship, as the way in which tennis athletes react after being a long time away from courts varies from player to player. The only thing we can tell for sure is that she will have to work extremely hard,if she wants to be successful
